Public Service and Civic Engagement, Certificate of Achievement

The Public Service and Civic Engagement Certificate of Achievement prepares students to become engaged, socially responsible leaders through a combination of coursework and hands-on service learning. Students will work with community partners to address pressing social challenges across four core areas: K–12 Education, Climate Action, Food Security, and Health Equity. Through guided reflection, civic skill-building, and immersive service experiences, participants will develop practical strategies for social change, understand systemic inequities, and gain leadership experience in community-driven projects. This certificate equips students with the knowledge, skills, and civic mindset to make meaningful contributions to their communities and pursue pathways in public service, nonprofit work, and social innovation.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Apply service-learning principles to address community-identified needs in Education, Climate Action, Food Security, and Health Equity.
  • Plan, implement, and assess service projects in partnership with community organizations to produce tangible benefits in one or more of the four core focus areas.
