This course explores the complexities of the human experience from antiquity through the modern era. Emphasis is placed on self-knowledge, critical thinking, and responsible value choices through the study of art, science and technology, philosophy, religion, mythology, and ethics. This course examines underlying philosophies and worldviews of Native Americans, European Americans, African Americans, and Asian Americans, as expressed in literature, fine arts, music, dance, drama, and architecture, using three major humanities themes: freedom, love, and nature. HUMA 40 - Introduction to Feminist Theory (3 units)

This course surveys the broad field of feminist study known as feminist theory, introducing students to primary traditions in critical theory, fundamental gender studies vocabulary, feminist frameworks, and familiarizing students with major issues of concern to feminist theorists while exploring a range of topics in both current and historical contexts. Offered as GWOS 40, HUMA 40, and PHIL 40; credit may be earned only once. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
