Archaeology Fieldwork, Certificate of Achievement
The Certificate of Achievement in Archaeological Fieldwork prepares students for work as an archaeology field technician. The certificate promotes a broad range of professional skills, including survey and excavation, mapping and documentation, artifact identification, and processing and analysis. It also prepares students to consider the legal, operational, and ethical issues guiding archaeological research, cultural resource management, and heritage preservation. Successful completion of this program enables meaningful participation in field and laboratory settings.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Employ archaeological survey, mapping, and excavation techniques in a simulated fieldwork setting.
- Differentiate the various attributes used to identify archaeological sites, features, and artifact forms.
- Employ methodologies used in the processing and analysis of artifacts.
- Consider the legal, operational, and ethical issues guiding archaeological research, cultural resource management, and heritage preservation.
